Jazz Guitar Society
We created JazzGuitarSociety.com to be a community for guitarists to share knowledge, thoughts and inspirations, as well as find answers to questions and pathways to advancement. In addition to things like transcriptions, chord melody arrangements, soloing, comping concepts and just really cool licks, JazzGuitarSociety.com provides high quality study materials from an ever increasing collection of some the best player/educators on the instrument, each teaching on their specialities, which many times will include topics rarely touched upon anywhere else. Our overriding goal at JGS is to provide all players with the means to improve into a deeper level.
As we all know, the guitar is not inherently laid out to lend itself to the easy understanding of harmony and scales, and as such it is very important to have insights from people that both play and understand jazz AND the many quirks and challenges of the instrument.

Doug says, "We got to talking on Skype and it
turned out that he had the domain name, and I had just started a collaboration
with Mike Miller to do a “Post Bop Guitar” book project that it became clear
that regular print with a big publisher no longer made any sense to do. So we
started shooting “Masterclass” video lessons with ourselves and Mike and adding
in other of my old Musician’s Institute teacher friends and
JazzGuitarSociety.com was off and running.
JGS is committed to bringing the “big boutique music school” experience to people’s desktop computers all over the world, and offer a more advanced level of information than you’ll find most anywhere else. Because of this, our worldwide customer list includes many very successful film composers and university level guitar professors.
We are currently developing a multi-week music course format called “Musicbrella” that is a university styled learning model where students log into a menu of the courses they have registered for and can view videos, download PDF written material, and browse a Wiki of related study items. Opening on later 2015, the first courses include an amazing blues course from Allen Hinds called “Blues A La Hinds” and a collaborative improvisation course for any genre guitarist from myself & Mike Miller called “Improvisation Tools For Guitarist”.
Blues A La Hinds includes single string rock blues essentials, comping chordal concepts, beginning to advanced slide guitar techniques, and jazz blues soloing and comping. Improvisation Tools For Guitarists is a comprehensive way of learning to use scales in very creative and different ways to come up with your own unique ways of playing, in whatever types of music you choose to use them within."
