Welcome To Doug Perkins Music
Doug Perkins- Guitarist, Composer, Music Educator and Session Player.
Formerly based in Los Angeles, Doug recently relocated to Kansas City for a taste of its vibrant jazz scene. "Los Angeles is this wonderful music mecca, but that has been changing little by little for decades, especially with the jazz music scene..." "There are forty working jazz clubs in the Kansas City area with great players and I want to be playing a lot more than I have been. Los Angeles is this wonderful music mecca, but I can tell you that has been changing little by little for decades- especially with the jazz music scene.
I used to go to the Monterey Jazz Festival and would think about someday focusing my work where there would a 'smaller pond;' a place with a lot of great players and gigs. Kansas City is that place! It has twenty jazz festivals a year and people go to them, That's when the light bulb went off in my head at the start of the year, Everything seemed to make sense." |
Doug's guitar influences: Jimi Hendrix, John Scofield, Robben Ford, Pat Metheny, John Mayer, Bill Frisell, Jeff beck, Ralph Towner, and a phone book list of others. READ MORE.
"Gardens of Gizsh" CD on cdbaby.com
This is a collection of songs that hopefully show the things that I love the most from both jazz and rock; from lyrical melodies to screaming frenzied solos to odd meter and re-harmonization to soft introspection.
The guitar palette goes from just a "little dirty post bop" to a "full throated roar," and back down to "the quiet beauty of a nylon string." Fans of John Scofield. Pat Metheny, Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, and Jimi Hendrix should all find something they'll love here. BUY 'GARDENS OF GIZSH' AT CDBABY.COM |
"Psychedelic Bebop" might be a good way to categorize this music - It really will apply for "Do The Funky Whatever" which is my favorite tune. But you get more here from rock to mellow with great compositions. The playing is first class on every cut. This is a far cry from the cookie cutter mellow jazz that everyone seems to be putting out now. More Doug!
